Story mode: 300 levels around the world
A map, 300 levels, three stars to earn on each. The difficulty does not rise at random: it follows how familiar each country is, from the obvious to the forgotten.
How it works
Story mode is a campaign of 300 levels laid out on a map you climb level by level. Each level offers a handful of questions drawn from the game's modes, and earns one to three stars depending on your score. You need a minimum of stars to continue, never perfection.
Difficulty that follows familiarity, not chance
That is what sets the mode apart from a mere sequence of games. GeoG ranks its 195 countries by familiarity, and the campaign follows that scale: the first levels draw from countries everyone knows, the last from countries almost nobody can place. Progression is steady, with a wide enough band that each level stays varied.
In practice, level 1 will ask you for France or Brazil; level 300, for Kiribati or Turkmenistan.
Lives, and ways to get them back
Failing a level costs a life. Lives regenerate over time, and you can recover one immediately — it is the only place in the game where an advert is offered, never imposed.
Offline
Story mode works without a connection in the mobile app: the entire campaign is derived from the level number, with no network call. It is the format to take on a plane or the underground.
Difficulty, continent by continent
The last levels draw heavily on Oceania and the Caribbean: those are the areas that concentrate the least familiar countries, and where the number of states bears no relation to their population.
